"Hello to all Windjammer Sailing Adventures and S/V Mandalay Fans!
Zack here. Long time no speak!
I know many of you have been wondering what is going on with Mandy since the news of our purchase of the ship and its transport to Trinidad, and rightfully so. We've received your messages and have seen some posts, and I apologize for not sending any sort of update sooner.
The process of getting all of our ducks in a row to start her restoration has been quite lengthy, and, well, very thorough (which is a great thing). Now that we have reached a place where we are starting to press forward, I wanted to send out a quick message to share the little bit of information that is available.
As most of you know, the tug from Grenada to Port of Spain was long and challenging, but it was successful. The Mandalay handled the rough 22 hour passage and arrived safely in Trinidad, where she has been anxiously resting awaiting her restoration to begin.
The team in Trinidad performed an extremely thorough inspection of her needs, and well, as you can imagine from the neglect throughout the last several years, she is in need of a lot of love. With that being said, there are minor things that could be done to get her operational and safe "enough" for passengers and back on the water quickly, but that isn't what we're going to do. That will never be what we do. Our commitment to you all, and to her, is that her upkeep will always be our top priority. She deserves that and you all deserve that. So we've committed to going all the way with her restoration and rebuild.
With that level of restoration, candidly and not surprisingly, we're looking for some outside investment assistance. Once the inspection was completed and the full scope of the project was more clear, we worked with our financial advisors and legal team to get everything in place to prepare for our capital raise. All of that work is now completed.
Meanwhile, Boston and Mashup have been VERY involved with the demo (please do not let that word scare you - it's necessary to tear some parts down in order to rebuild properly) of the rotted and unusable parts of the ship. This has been very helpful as it will ultimately help reduce the overall cost of the entire project. I was in Trinidad a few months ago to meet with the guys, and their spirits are high, but just like all of us, they're eager to get the ball rolling on forward progress and to get her back in the water for all of you.
Charles and I have been very active the last 30-45 days meeting with potential investors, talking to advisors, and hitting the streets hard to work towards obtaining our fundraising goal. We've had some VERY promising discussions and significant interest, and we feel we're on the verge of landing some help to get everything started! Once we get there, please keep in mind that the timeline for her restoration is still very lengthy - we're expecting around 15 months - but it will feel really good to see her starting to be brought back to her glory and to be able to share that experience with all of you! I am optimistic that those days aren't too far away!
Thank you all for staying engaged and for your continued love and support for the Mandalay. We'll do a better job of keeping you all in the loop as we have new information - even if they're small updates - we get that no news isn't good news when we are all so excited.
If anyone is interested in taking a look or hearing more about the investment opportunity in Windjammer Sailing Adventures and the restoration of the Mandalay, please do not hesitate to contact me at zack@sailingwindjammer.com
