Day 1/2 Arrive in Kunming, capital of Yunnan which is home to half of China’s 55 minorities. Subject to time, Bamboo Temple. Stone Forest. 2 nights in Kunming.

Day 3 Continue to drive to Dali. Home of the Bai people and seat of the ancient kingdom of Dali. Explore old town, superbly set between the Cangshan Mountains and Er Hai Lake. O/N Dali Old Town.
Drive to the ancient town of Shaxi, 150km, and visit the impressive Buddhist monuments and carvings on Stone Mountain. |

Day 4/5 Drive to Lijiang, visit Tiger Leaping Gorge, one of the deepest gorges in the world. In World Heritage Listed Lijiang, home of the Naxi people. This town, in an amazing setting, is known for its wooden buildings, slate roofs, cobblestone streets and is crisscrossed by streams of clear mountain water. Chairlift the 5,500 meter Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. 2 nights in Lijiang.

Day 6/7 Visit Songzanlin Tibetan Buddhism Monastery, designed as a smaller version of Lhasa's Potala Palace and home to 780 monks of the Yellow Hat Tibetan sect. First Bend of Golden Sand River ( the upper reach of Yangtze ). Old Town, Tibet family, yak tea. 2 nights in Shangri-la.

Day 8/9 Evening flight to Jinghong from Lijiang (50 minutes), capital of tropical home to the Dai minority. Exploring this paradise including Ganlanba morning market, the Botanic Garden and Wild Elephant Valley. 2 nights in Jinghong.

Day 10 Express boat down the upper Mekong (10 hours) to Chiang Saen in Thailand, located at the Golden Triangle. O/N Chaing Saen |

Day 11 Exploring this region including the Hall of Opium which showcases centuries of opium history. Later board the luxurious 'Mekong Sun' to continue our trip down the river.

Days 12/13/14 Sailing down the Mekong, enjoying river life and exploring villages on the way and seeing the famous Pak Ou Caves. 3-4 nights on board the Mekong Sun.

Days 15/16 Arrive at Luang Prabang, ancient capital of Laos. Tour the beautiful temples and pagodas and O/N this laid back city by the Mekong. 2 nights in Luang Prabang.
