DAY 8.

Cruise on to the Greek island of Tilos  - a large but sparsely inhabited island mooring in the picturesque harbour of Livadia, dominated by the blue and white church of Agios Nikolaos. There are many Byzantine and Crusader remains on the island. There is a fine walk up to the main town on the island, Megalo Chorio. A castle built by the Venetians towers over the town, and incorporates classical remains. There is an interesting paleogeographical museum in the town which has the remains of pygmy mammoths. Return to Livadia harbour for dinner and overnight on OLYMPUS. There are a few tavernas nearby which usually have good hors d'oevres, like calamari.

DAY 9.

After breakfast sail across to the island of Symi and to the harbour of Gialos at its northern tip.  The harbour is overlooked by the lovely town of Chorio, one of the most beautiful in the whole of the Greek islands, whose Cycladic style Greek houses climb up the slopes above the anchorage.  Afternoon exploring the town and its churches and a few of the tavernas for which the town is famous.  Return to the boat.  Dinner and overnight ON BOARD in Symi.

DAY 10.

There are many hikes through the town and the adjacent countryside. One recommended is to climb to the top of the town and walk west to Kefalos, passing no fewer than five monasteries.  In Chorio itself are several fine churches and the Castle of the Knights of St John. Dinner and overnight ON BOARD in Symi.

DAY 11.

Symi was famous last century for being the centre of the sponge diving industry. After breakfast, a morning sail brings us to the southern tip of Symi and the well sheltered bay of Panormitis dominated by the beautiful Greek Orthodox monastery and Campanile of Taxiarchis Michail. The cloistered monastery is famous for its icon of the Archangel Michael. The sheltered bay is a lovely place for swimming. Dinner and overnight ON BOARD in Panormitis.

DAY 12.

Leaving Symi, cruise on to Rhodes - the largest of the Dodecanese Greek islands. The city was originally built in the 4th century BC as part of the new Hellenistic age. Today, most of its obvious remains are Crusader. Rhodes became the centre for the Crusader Knights of St. John of Jerusalem from 1306 to 1519, and the city still has much of the 14th and 15th century remains. An afternoon spent in the city of Rhodes. Its crusader streets, houses, defences and the palace of the Grand Masters of the Knights Hospitaller can all be visited.  There is an excellent museum of classical and later antiquities. Dinner and overnight ON BOARD in Rhodes.

DAY 13.

There is much to see on the island of Rhodes, but in the short time available, a visit will be arranged by road to Lindos, one of the three original Classical cities on the island.  The Acropolis at Lindos is perched on a hilltop above the village and is dominated by a castle of the Knights of Rhodes.  After climbing to the top, the centre of the Acropolis has the remains of the Temple of Athena, a Doric stoa and a third century roman temple.  The village itself, at the foot, has interesting houses and inviting tavernas.  Return to Rhodes in the afternoon, which is at leisure in the Old City.  Dinner and overnight ON BOARD in Rhodes Harbour.

DAY 14.

After a last look at Rhodes, cross to Marmaris, arriving in the afternoon. Evening and overnight in Marmaris.
