Upon our return to the hotel, we enjoyed the thermal pool, fed by natural hot springs, which opened at 3:00 PM. It seems they drain the pool each night, leaving it empty by morning.

After checking out, we made our way to The Hump Airline Memorial Hall and the Graveyard of National Heroes. The diorama depicting “The Hump” showcased the daring nature of the pilots.

Later, we visited the Hot Sea, a thermal park considerably smaller than Yellowstone. Our guide informed us that they once had a battery-powered car to transport visitors to the top, allowing a downhill walk to observe the geysers, bubbling springs, and steam. However, this was no longer the case. We descended about 50 meters over a half-mile stretch before navigating a series of long switchbacks that required an elevation gain of at least 250 meters. Considering the current altitude, the uphill trek, and the restroom facilities, I would recommend skipping this destination.

Back at the hotel, the buffet pleasantly surprised us with its quality. I enjoyed a small steak that was quite tasty after I scraped off the pepper sauce. To my surprise, this was the only place we encountered sushi, despite our distance from the ocean.

This day was one I regretted not skipping. Our hosts expressed interest in exploring the Nujiang River for a potential bicycle tour. The highlight of the day was the Laomden Christian Church, majestically positioned on a hillside in Fugong County. An elderly gentleman held the keys and graciously opened the church for our visit. We returned to the hotel at 7:00 PM, but he hoped we would go out for a special dinner at 7:30 PM. I politely declined, as I could never subject clients to an 11-hour van ride.

Another long day we concluded our day in Lushui. We stopped at a enormous suspension bridge to admire. Later we checked into the Hilton Garden Inn. The menu featured what we consider traditional Chinese dishes, which was a pleasant surprise, along with a selection of American cuisine. However, I struggled to operate the TV and had to call the concierge for assistance.

Later in the afternoon, we made our way to Dali, starting our exploration at the Three Pagodas Temple complex. A battery-operated car took us up the mountain, providing breathtaking views of Erhai Lake. The temples dotted the landscape, their presence accompanied by the fragrant scent of incense. After visiting several temples, we rode the battery car back down. I mentioned to our guide that we had overlooked the reflecting pool, so we hiked back up to capture photos featuring the Three Pagodas against the tranquil backdrop of the pool.

Arriving in Dali late in the day, we found the Landscape Hotel perfectly positioned in the heart of the old town. Choosing to forgo dinner, we wandered through the numerous shops in search of the Bad Monkey Bar, which I had fondly remembered from my visit in 2011. Unfortunately, it did not show up in Google searches, which has limited reliability in China, but Apple Maps proved more helpful. Upon returning to our hotel, one of our travel companions mentioned he had successfully located the Bad Monkey Bar. Perhaps next time…

The following morning, we headed to Xizhou for the local market and then on to Shaxi, with a stop at the Stone Temple, the largest Buddhist grotto in Yunnan. The visitor area featured an extensive toilet complex with squatty potties. After waiting for the battery car, we began our ascent up the mountain. Once we reached the trailhead, we discovered the path descended steeply for about two miles toward the grotto. Not wanting to face a 200-meter elevation gain on the way back, I enjoyed a leisurely walk along the relatively flat hilltop, taking in the views.

We continued our journey to Xizhou and explored the local market, where my notable purchase was pomegranate juice. The vibrant shops displayed a variety of goods, many specializing in Puer tea. We already had some from the generous gift of our tour leader, Tony Deng. The produce section was remarkable, captivating me enough to snap numerous photos. The ancient town maintained a charm that felt less commercialized compared to Dali or Lijiang, our previous stop. There was a woodworking shop and several vendor stalls, and remarkably, the vendors simply left everything on their tables overnight. Early the next morning, we enjoyed browsing the booths without a vendor in sight—what incredible trust these people have.

The next stop is Shangri-La, with its mystical name evoking a land of peace and tranquility, is a must-visit destination in Yunnan at 12,000 feet above sea level. Shangri-La is nestled high in the Himalayan foothills, it offers breathtaking scenery, a rich tapestry of Tibetan culture, and a serene atmosphere that makes it a true escape from the hustle and bustle of modern life. There were many shops and restaurants in the old town. One restaurant just served bugs. We found a pizza place. We had Yak meat for lunch passed off as beef by our guide, who evidently did not know the difference. It tastes like beef but the spices were unusual to my palate.

We went to the Songzanlin Monastery. Our guide told us we need to walk up 600 steps to see it. I told him the last time I was here were dropped off at the top by vehicle. I was ready to take a pass and then the cab ladies asked if we wanted a lift to the top? Of course. It seems since the reorganization of the temple complex only native Tibetans can operate within the complex. We took the van to the top. And then Tony springs this climbing another double set to 60 stairs to the overlook. Remind you we are at 12,000 feet.

We embarked on a tour of the Songstam Lodge, situated behind the Songzanlin Monastery Temple Complex. As we made our way, a guard diligently checked our temple tickets. The Lodge features an expansive collection of stone buildings, all crafted in Tibetan style, with a delightful dining room and bar that offer picturesque views of the rear of the temple. The dining establishment serves a delectable mix of Chinese, Tibetan, and Western cuisine, complemented by a coffee shop that boasts a charming patisserie. The rooms are outfitted with Tibetan-style beds, elegant showers or tubs, cozy wood stoves, and stunning views of the temple. The exterior doors are draped with hides to keep out the chill.

Our Tibetan-style hotel in Shangrila provided supplemental oxygen in our rooms during the evening. The staff would inquire about our bedtime, and the maid would knock on the door to activate the oxygen system. This was especially helpful given the four flights of stairs—12 steps each—that we needed to climb to access our room. We informed Tony, “This place is off the list for future clients.”

After a tiring ascent of 100 steps (I could have throttled Tony), we ventured to a nearby hotel for breakfast. We took a quick look at some street-side rooms, which appeared far superior to our accommodations. Upon returning to our van, we enjoyed a lift from the hotel to ground level, followed by a short stroll of about 50 yards slightly downhill to reach our vehicle.

Next, we headed to a Tibetan village. The houses typically have stables on the ground floor, with living quarters above. On the upper levels, we noticed several greenhouses, as well as wood stoves or fireplaces. These spacious homes are often shared by multi-generational families.

Our journey took us to Tiger Leaping Gorge, which has transformed from a challenge for the adventurous into a sprawling set of parking lots catering to the influx of tourists. Since our visit in 2011, the Chinese have installed approximately eight extensive escalators, one for each direction of travel. Previously, visitors had to descend 1,400 stairs to reach the bottom and then climb back up. Back in 2011, when I was younger, I appreciated the convenience of the escalator, although it also attracted large crowds of Chinese tourists. Naturally no western toilets.

On our journey to Lijiang, we made a stop at an impressively clean gas station complex, which, of course, featured traditional squatty potties. We then checked into the Kasion Hotel, which is advertised as a 5-star establishment but might be a bit oversold. The hotel was quite nice, although the television only offered Chinese programming, and only an electrical engineer could decipher its operation. Soon after, we headed to Jade Dragon Snow Mountain Park. On a clear day, one can capture stunning photographs with the mountain mirrored in the pool. Unfortunately, the sky was overcast, and the pool was being cleaned in a manner reminiscent of standard swimming pool maintenance.

We were joined by a local guide for a tour of Old Town. She shared fascinating insights into the ancient rules governing the usage of the water that flows through the town. Lijiang is a beautifully preserved ancient Chinese town, rich with cultural essence. Walking along the 800-year-old bridges and waterways of the famed Old Town district feels like a journey through time, though it is now largely populated by shops and restaurants. That evening, Tony finally stumbled upon an amazing restaurant. I indulged in a delightful meal primarily featuring shrimp and duck but decided to pass on the Chinese Fire Water. During dinner, I received an unexpected text.

Our flight to Shanghai the following afternoon was delayed by two hours, which would significantly reduce our transfer time in Shanghai. I spent the entire night debating what to do. After an early breakfast, we approached the concierge and requested to head to the airport immediately. “But sir, you’re scheduled for 10:00 am.” Using my translator app, I explained that we needed to find an earlier flight. Once at the airport, we joined the Spring Airlines line, and after 10 minutes, we reached the front. However, our attempts to explain the situation to the agent were futile. A Chinese woman, whose title I did not know, overheard us and kindly guided us to a different counter where we could book a ticket on an 11 am flight with another airline. I texted Trip.com and selected the cancellation option (that flight is now delayed by 3 hours) with a full refund. The woman checked our bag at the “Priority” counter. We had just 45 minutes left to board, and she politely refused a tip, despite my efforts. Off we went to Shanghai. The journey was smooth; our bags were the first to come off the plane! We stopped at McDonald’s between terminals. There was minimal walking, and we were thrilled to see the American Airlines counter.

Upon arrival at LAX the customs agent threw a hissy fit over my wife possessing two passports (I also have two, but I passed through without a hitch). She attempted to explain that her new passport was necessary, but she needed the old one since her China Visa was in it. Unfortunately, he didn’t understand and seized her old passport. Once home, my wife called Legal Shield for guidance. Our daughter contacted LAX, and the customs official agreed to retrieve the passport from downstairs. He did, and our niece, who resides in Los Angeles, picked it up the next day. Finally, we are home.

The Kunming Flying Tigers Memorial Hall is an essential destination that honors the legacy of the Flying Tigers, intertwining personal stories with historical narratives. Formally the headquarters of the AVG, it is located across from Spring City 66, it features free admission and generally takes about 30-60 minutes to explore.

We toured the museum and rested watching old film clips circa WWII Kunming. We ordered Coca-Cola and they ran out and purchased it for us. We did not want a cocktail in the Officer's Club that early in the day.

US Prepares for Coming Blackout Due to A Total Solar Eclipse

Tropical Sails Corp has three tours for the August 21, Total Solar Eclipse in the USA. TSC has been to Africa, Turkey, China, and Australia- all twice. They charted the former Windjammer Barefoot Cruises fleet for the February 26, 1998 Total Solar Eclipse. Currently Tropical Sails has clients in Borneo, Belitung Island and in the Java Sea recovering from the March 9, 2016 total solar eclipse.

The last one in North America was Feb. 26, 1979. A nation went so long without. Without what? Without being totaled by a total eclipse of the sun.

August 21, 2017 totality returns as the Moon will pass between the Earth and the Sun, therefore obscuring the image of the Sun from the prospective of a thin strip of land in the United States.

The moons shadow will touchdown in Oregon, Idaho, Wyoming, Nebraska, Missouri, Southern Illinois, Eastern Kentucky, Tennessee and South Carolina. Along a path a little over 100 miles wide the sun will be completely blocked by the moon.

Amateur astronomers, eclipse chasers, ecliptophiles from all over the globe will descent on this narrow strip of land to observe the dark side of the moon. The sun’s corona, prominences, and other phenomena will be visible by naked eye for a period just over two minutes. Planets will be visible in the daytime. The effect, which is very difficult to photograph, brings chills and palpitations to observers. One client of Tropical Sails Corp said that, “it was like seeing the face of God.”

Tropical Sails Corp has been providing clients with opportunities to observe solar eclipses since the intrepid caravan of 35 motorhomes, trailers and rigs who drove the Baja in 1991. The two major factors of where to go to observe any solar eclipse are the weather, i.e. probability of cloud cover and length of the eclipse.

Capturing the 2 July 2019 total solar eclipse

It's been a spectacular day by any measure. Clear skies greeted early risers and eclipse chasers in La Serena, Chile.No one likes to count their chickens early, especially 11 hours before totality, but it was obvious that clouds would play no part in this eclipse over Chile .

While the vast majority enjoyed a lie-in on the coastal town of La Serena, tens of thousands elected to drive, bus and hitch-hike to the mountainous region of Vicuña - home to many of the world's best observatories.

I arrived at Mamalluca Observatory at 7am. The space was reserved for several teams of university scientists and a travel group of serious amateur astronomers.

Professor Martina Ardnt of Bridgewater University was leading the trip of a lifetime for her science students.

As Professor Ardnt explained, their aim was to take measurements of the inner solar corona in order answer questions about coronal heating and the solar wind.

Their group, who had shipped between 1 and 2 metric tonnes of equipment, was one of three Sherpa groups across the path of totality .

On the hill outside the observatory, large numbers gathered to watch the solar eclipse.

I joined a group run by Daniel Oppliger of Tropical Sails; a combination of eclipse veterans and eclipse newbies.

First contact, the moment the Moon takes its first bite of the Sun, came at 3.23pm.

The celestial show had started. There was a relaxed atmosphere as the chunk grew deeper.

With almost 60 per cent of the Sun covered, a small wind picked up and the temperature dipped.

Seven minutes before totality, some keen-eyed individuals picked out Venus with the naked eye.

Shadow bands, atmospheric disturbances that look like ripples of light on the bottom of a swimming pool, were visible on a white sheet that the group had placed on the ground.

The valley in front of us allowed us to see the growing shadow of the Moon form before our eyes.

The last sliver of sunlight was broken by a lunar peak a full minute before totality.

This was clearly visible with filters, and not something I had seen before.

The diamond ring - the last embers of the Sun shining through the lunar valley - became visible to the unfiltered eye.

The crowds around me screamed in excitement. I went to work photographing totality for a single minute.

Photographs captured, I focused my new Canon 15x50 IS binoculars on the Sun.

The view was breathtaking. Totality, magnified in stereo, gave a completely different view to the naked eye.

A gigantic prominence hung loosely off the Sun at a 7 o'clock position.

I passed the binoculars to my wife, Dr. Mary Dobbs.

She noted that the view of chromosphere was incredible and said the binoculars were "much better than previous telescope views of totality. They give the whole picture".

The chromosphere gave way to the second diamond ring and the crowds whooped and cheered again, celebrating the end of a beautiful eclipse.

Shadow bands, atmospheric disturbances that look like ripples of light on the bottom of a swimming pool, were visible on a white sheet that the group had placed on the ground.

They're relatively rare to see. Unfortunately the camera couldn't pick them out due to their low contrast but several people, myself included, saw them clearly with the naked eye.

For Bobbi Ann Chanfer, there was a third diamond ring.

Her boyfriend, Professor Matthew Halper, dropped to his knee and asked her to marry him.

He presented her with a diamond ring, inset with a black diamond on the opposite side of the clear diamond.

Held to the light, they create an eclipse effect. Two small rubies flanked the black diamond to act as prominences. Bobbi said yes!

And so the celebrations of a beautiful eclipse had extra meaning.

The Chilean eclipse of 2019 was truly unforgettable.

Western Turkey Seven Churches Tour Review

We arrived at the Turkish Airlines counter in Dallas and they made us an offer we could not refuse. We upgraded to Business Class for $1399 on our trip to Istanbul complete with lounge privileges both in DFW and IST. We must have had a solid 8 hours sleep along with our gourmet meal on the plane nonstop DFW to Istanbul. Oh wow!

We transferred to Izmir and met our group. After a nice meal and an Efes Beer we went to bed. On to Didyma and Miletus, an ancient city and temple and a lessor visited site in Southwestern Turkey.

The night we spent by the sea in Kusadashi. The evening meal consisted on no less than 10 starters and a kebap to follow. How could you not love the food?

We hit the Virgin Mary house first thing in the morning before the crowds. Mary was said to live her last days here in the tutelage of St. John. The spring trickles out holy water is a serene setting visited by pilgrims year-round.

Ephesus never disappoints. The excavations are ongoing. The Terrace Houses are open for inspection. The toilets are reopened. Over a year ago a tourist fell into a pit and safety measures were taken. It seems one of the resident cats got itself caught in one of the pipes and perished giving off a terrible odor. We did not spot Garfield the resident king cat with his own Instagram page. Part of the library façade was covered by scaffolding. Dodging the hordes of people we managed to have informative talks along the path gently going down hill and ending by the theater where St. Paul caused a riot. The Church of St. John provided a view of what was the harbor of Ephesus.

We made a lunch stop at Thyatira dining where locals do cafeteria style in a very small cafe. The Pergamum Asklepion was the fat farm of antiquity. We learned of the magic waters that induced diarrhea and vomiting to reduce weight. Interesting. On the hill was the Acropolis and Great Theatre. Luckily we drove to a perch near the summit before our climb up and down through the magestic site with great views of the valleys that surround it.

Assos proved to be a challenge at it was a steep climb up a cobbletone path to the ancient city. Our guide asked us to support the vendors along the path which I did purchasing a set of candy dishes and other trinkets. After Assos we drove to Alexander Troas where St. Paul met up with Luke. Later in the day we toured the 11 layers of Troy. We walked up and down a boardwalk observing the ancient city. Unfortunately climbing into the wooden horse was closed for some reason. I have a photo of my daughter peeking out from above take in 1999. In Canakkale there was another wooden horse along the waterfront. By this time the weather turned a little chilly as we were a few hundred miles north from Didyma.

We ventured on to Nicea. I wanted to stop in Bursa, but we did not have time. I would suggest adding a day to visit the Silk market in Bursa for any private group. In Nicea we toured the St. Sophia Church, where the Nicene Creed was written. Unfortunately Erdrogen turned the church into a mosque. On to Istanbul we go. We missed the ferry so we had to drive a round about way and arrvied at our hotel about seven pm.

Advice from an Israeli Agent

Advice from an Israeli Agent Juval Aviv was the Israeli Agent upon whom the movie 'Munich' was based. He was (Prime Minister) Golda Meir's bodyguard, and she appointed him to track down and bring to justice the Palestinian terrorists who took the Israeli athlete’s hostage and killed them during the Munich Olympic Games. In a lecture in New York City he shared information that EVERY American needs to know -- but that our government has not yet shared with us. He predicted the London subway bombing on the Bill O'Reilly show on Fox News stating publicly that it would happen within a week. At the time, O'Reilly laughed and mocked him saying that in a week he wanted him back on the show.

Unfortunately, within a week the terrorist attack had occurred. Juval Aviv gave intelligence (via what he had gathered in Israel and the Middle East) to the Bush Administration about 9/11, a month before it occurred.

His report specifically said they would use planes as bombs and target high profile buildings and monuments. Congress has since hired him as a security consultant.

Now for his future predictions.

He predicts the next terrorist attack on the U.S. will occur within the next few months. Forget hijacking airplanes, because he says terrorists will NEVER try and hijack a plane again as they know the people onboard will never go down quietly again. Aviv believes our airport security is a joke -- that we have been reactionary rather than proactive in developing strategies that are truly effective.

For example:

1) Our airport technology is outdated. We look for metal, and the new explosives are made of plastic.

2) He talked about how some idiot tried to light his shoe on fire. Because of that, now everyone has to take off their shoes. A group of idiots tried to bring aboard liquid explosives. Now we can't bring liquids on board. He says he's waiting for some suicidal maniac to pour liquid explosive on his underwear; at which point, security will have us all traveling naked! Every strategy we have is reactionary.

3) We only focus on security when people are heading to the gates. Aviv says that if a terrorist attack targets airports in the future, they will target busy times on the front end of the airport when/where people are checking in. It would be easy for someone to take two suitcases of explosives, walk up to a busy check-in line, ask a person next to them to watch their bags for a minute while they run to the restroom or get a drink, and then detonate the bags BEFORE security even gets involved. In Israel, security checks bags BEFORE people can even ENTER

the airport.

Aviv says the next terrorist attack here in America is imminent and will involve suicide bombers and non- suicide bombers in places where large groups of people congregate. (i.e., Disneyland, Las Vegas casinos, big cities (New York, San Francisco, Chicago, etc.) and that it will also include shopping malls, subways in rush hour, train stations, etc., as well as, rural America this time. The inter-lands (Wyoming, Montana, etc.). The attack will be characterized by simultaneous detonations around the country (terrorists like big impact), involving at least S-8 cities, including rural areas.

Aviv says terrorists won't need to use suicide bombers in many of the larger cities, because at places like the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, they can simply valet park a car loaded with explosives and walk away.

Aviv says all of the above is well known in intelligence circles, but that our U.S. Government does not want to 'alarm American citizens' with the facts.

The world is quickly going to become 'a different place', and issues like 'global warming' and political correctness will become totally irrelevant. On an encouraging note, he says that Americans don't have to be concerned about being nuked. Aviv says the terrorists who want to destroy America will not use sophisticated weapons. They like to use suicide as a front-line approach. It's cheap, it's easy, it's effective; and they have an infinite abundance of young militants more than willing to 'meet their destiny'. He also says the next level of terrorists, over which America should be most concerned, will not be coming from abroad. But will be, instead, 'homegrown', having attended and been educated in our own schools and universities right here in the U.S. He says to look for 'students' who frequently travel back and forth to the Middle East. These young terrorists will be most dangerous because they will know our language and will fully understand the habits of Americans; but that we Americans won't know/understands thing about them.

Aviv says that, as a people, Americans are unaware and uneducated about the terrorist threats we will inevitably face. America still has only a handful of Arabic and Farsi speaking people in our intelligence networks, and Aviv says it is critical that we change that fact SOON. So, what can America do to protect itself? From an intelligence perspective,

Aviv says the U.S. needs to stop relying on satellites and technology for intelligence. We need to, instead, follow Israel's, Ireland's and England's hands-on examples of human intelligence, both from an infiltration perspective as well as to pay attention to, and trust 'aware' citizens to help. We need to engage and educate ourselves as citizens; however, our U.S. government continues to treat us, its citizens, 'like babies'. Our government thinks we 'can't handle the truth' and are concerned that we'll panic if we understand the realities of terrorism. Aviv says this is a deadly mistake.

Aviv recently created and executed a security test for our Congress, by placing an empty briefcase in five well-traveled spots in five major cities. The results? Not one person called 911 or sought a policeman to check the unattended briefcase out. In fact, in Chicago, someone tried to steal the briefcase!

In comparison, Aviv says that citizens of Israel are so well 'trained' that an unattended bag or package would be reported in seconds by citizen(s) who know to publicly shout, 'Unattended Bag!'

The area would be quickly and calmly cleared by the citizens themselves. Unfortunately, America hasn't been yet 'hurt enough' by terrorism for their government to fully understand the need to educate its' citizens or for the government to understand that it's their citizens who are, inevitably, the best first-line of defense against terrorism. (Citizens are NOW the first line of defense on a hijacked airplane!)

Aviv also was concerned about the high number of children here in America who were in preschool and kindergarten after 9/11, who were 'lost' without parents being able to pick them up, and our schools that had no plan in place to best care for the students until parents could get there. (In New York City, this was days, in some cases!)

Aviv says that the U. S. government has in force a plan, that in the event of another terrorist

attack, EVERYONE's ability to use cell phones, blackberries, etc., will immediately be cut-off, as this is the preferred communication source used by terrorists and is often the way that their bombs are detonated. (i.e. The government will shut off the cellular network in an attack!) Does your family know what to do if you can't contact one another by phone? Where would you gather in an emergency? He says we should all have a plan that is easy enough for even our youngest children to remember and follow. How will you communicate with your loved ones in the event you cannot speak to each other?

You need to have a plan. He stresses the importance of having a plan, that's agreed upon within your family, of how to respond in the event of a terrorist emergency. He urges parents to contact their children's schools and demand that the schools too, develop plans of actions, just as they do in Israel.

If you understand and believe what you have just read, then you must feel compelled to send this to every concerned parent, guardian, grandparents, uncles, aunts, whomever. Don't stop there. In addition to sharing this via e-mail, contact and discuss this information with whomever it makes sense to. Make contingency plans with those you are about. Better that you have plans in place and never have to use them, than to have no plans in place and find you needed them.

If you choose not to share this, or not to have a plan in place, and nothing ever occurs -- good for you! However, in the event something does happen, and even more so, if it directly affects your loved ones, then this e-mail will haunt you forever. Telling yourself after the fact, "I should have sent this to so and so, but deleted it as so much trash from old Bill Jones, plus, I just didn't believe it", will not change anything.

You were alerted, had the chance to do something, and instead of erring on the side of caution, you chose to disregard, if nothing else, a sensible, valuable warning. The Next Time You Vote, Have A Look At Your Standard Of Living And Healthcare. I'd Think Twice About A Candidate's Agenda Before Pulling That Lever....... Always Vote American For America's Future....

Advice from an Israeli Agent

Dear TSA Customer Service,

I am writing to formally object to invasive and inappropriate search practices conducted by TSA agents during airport s creening. There is no justification for touching individuals’ private areas or inspecting personal grooming under the guise of security.

On Friday at 3:00 p.m., at Terminal D of Dallas-Fort Worth Airport (DFW), I experienced an unacceptable and deeply disturbing incident. Despite having TSA PreCheck and passing through the metal detector without issue, I was randomly selected for a full-body scanner. The scanner flagged the Velcro on my trousers. At this point, my personal belongings—including a wallet containing over $100—had already been confiscated and were out of my sight. Two credit cards were skimmed in the process. If it was not the TSA, they why does the TSA let skimmers through security? How many wallets have taken down a plane? Inquiring minds want to know!

During the subsequent pat-down, the TSA agent made direct contact with my genital area, repeatedly touching my penis multiple times. When I objected and identified this behavior as inappropriate, both the agent and his supervisor dismissed my concerns. The search was then repeated, during which the agent again made contact with my penis, including rubbing the glans with the back of his hands. Additionally, the agent reached inside my waistband after instructing me to unbuckle my belt.

As a 71-year-old man with no cause for suspicion, this experience was a serious violation of my rights and personal dignity. I regret not documenting the agent’s identity or badge number due to the distressing nature of the encounter.

I request an immediate review and investigation of these practices and expect assurances that TSA screening procedures will be conducted respectfully and in accordance with federal regulations. Such invasive and degrading behavior is unacceptable and must be addressed promptly.

1) Class of accommodations: three star or four star. We usually do five star in Pamukkale because most groups want to experience the hot springs. For private groups, we suggest two nights in Pamukkale.

2) Meal plans. The savings of having clients buy their own lunch does not equal out to what lunch would cost on their own. We can discuss places where you may want to eat on your own. For example, in Ephesus, you may go to a cafeteria or to a restaurant attached to a carpet shop.

3) Most yachts are chartered by the week. For church groups, in the shoulder season, we may be able to procure yachts for perhaps 4 nights to give you an authentic experience. We think it is important to get people out of the roads and let them relax.

4) Turkish Night is not to be missed in Istanbul or Cappadocia. It is a floor show of authentic Turkish folk dancers, music, with a belly dancer or two. The meal is also excellent. It usually includes a glass of wine or beer. This can be removed from the package with advance notice.

5) An evening dinner cruise in Istanbul on the Bosporus can be arranged for groups.

6) Tipping can be pre-collected or done in Turkey. The yacht crew needs to be tipped and so do your guides. Baggage handling and restaurants have tips included in the tour package.

7) Alcohol is always optional. Sometimes wine is included in yachting packages. We will discuss this with you and plan accordingly.

8) If our agency handles the flights, we can arrange inbound and outbound transfers. If everyone is on a different schedule, it makes it very difficult to provide group transfers.

9) Shopping opportunities. On many tours, the guides want to take you to places where they get a commission on your purchases. We do not allow this practice and clearly label shopping events such as carpet stores, pottery places, silk factories and so on.

10) Your Turkish tour guide will undoubtedly be a Muslim. He or she will have had appropriate training regarding the bible and sites that you will visit. Turkey takes licensing and training of tour guides very seriously.

Amidst the hustle of taxis and minivans, we arrive at the Port of Miami. A porter greets us at our shuttle bus. “Welcome to the Yacht Club,” he announces. We are swiftly guided to a private tent. The gentleman efficiently checks us in on the computer, hands us an MSC Card, and prints out new luggage tags. A butler collects our smaller bags and says, “Please, follow me.” We enter through a side door, showing our MSC Cards as we proceed. After a quick security check, we’re led into a room filled with champagne and cookies.

We swiftly present our credentials to another clerk, pose for a quick photo, and receive the green light. We step aboard the ship, where we're guided on how to use our card to access the Yacht Club reception via the elevator, along with an offer for more champagne. After a few moments, we are introduced to the concierge, who leads me to the self-service machine, where I swipe my MSC Card and a credit card.

We stowed our small bags in our room while our butler, Aaron, provided us with a tour of the space. Afterward, still dressed in our casual attire, we returned to the concierge to ask about lunch options. Mae, one of the butlerettes, kindly escorted us across deck 15 to the Muse, the exclusive restaurant of the Yacht Club, where we ordered a hamburger and a Caesar salad.

Once our luggage arrived, we took the opportunity to explore the pool area and the One Pool Bar. The pools were a refreshing 72 degrees, while the spas were comfortably set at 98 degrees F. The Mai Tai's were pleasantly chilled at about 40 degrees. Aaron, our butler, secured our dinner reservation for 7 pm, noting that it would be at the same table for the week. He then guided us to the Muse for dinner, where I savored the lasagna Portofino and Shirley enjoyed the lamb shank.

The Yacht Club offers a range of exclusive privileges. Our butler personally guided us to the exit ramp, allowing us to bypass the crowd, and unfastened the rope line to usher us to the front of the queue. Similarly, when we scanned our key card in the elevator, it automatically directed us to the Yacht Club, ignoring any other illuminated buttons. While this perk wasn't consistently reliable, it was definitely better than having none at all. In the evenings, MSC reserves seats in the theater specifically for Yacht Club guests. However, since these seats were located towards the back, we opted to forgo that experience.

S/V Mandalay is Coming Back to Life

Whether it is through the Roaring Riot, Sports Fans Travel, or even going back to my college days of DJing and throwing parties, building community by creating meaningful experiences for people has always been my passion. People have often told me that I am “lucky” to get to do what I love, but, truthfully, building events and connection opportunities with the purpose of forming relationships and bringing people joy is what I am good at – possibly the only thing. So, learning how to build businesses around those skills was necessary for me to find professional success. For the last 16 years, football and its fans has been the medium at the center of those experiences.

Until now!

This last year I have been working on a new opportunity to challenge my skillset. A new, or renewed way to create community and to build ever-lasting, memorable experiences for people. In April of 2023 I joined my family friend and now partner, Charles Kropke, in purchasing the S/V Mandalay – a 100-year-old, three mast sailing schooner, and one of the two remaining vessels from the Windjammer Barefoot Cruises original fleet. She is currently docked in Trinidad and is waiting her complete and thorough restoration.

Our goal is to not only restore the Mandalay, Charles and I have a vision and a plan to launch our company, Windjammer Sailing Adventures, with two to three sailing schooners, with an ultimate goal to establish a full sailing schooner cruise line with 8-10 ships cruising the Caribbean.

We Rode the Grand Canyon Train to the Park

Transporting myself back in time aboard the Grand Canyon Train invoked memories of my great-great-grandfather, who journeyed west by train to explore some of the “National Parks” back in 1888. While the Grand Canyon railway began operations in 1901, he unfortunately never had the chance to visit this stunning natural wonder.

As we settled into the opulent Parlor car, we quickly found our comfortable seats, complete with a welcoming glass of champagne. Once the journey commenced, we were treated to a delightful snack box. The flat plains soon transformed into lush forests, winding gracefully around bends at a relaxed pace. Venturing out to the rear platform, we marveled at the rhythmic clatter of the tracks beneath us.

When we finally arrived at the canyon, we were only able to catch a brief glimpse of its vast beauty from the train. Our luggage had been conveniently collected and delivered directly to our room. To fully appreciate the park, we hopped aboard the National Park Service’s shuttle bus, which whisked us to various western overlooks.

Around three in the afternoon, we checked into the Maswik Lodge. While not a traditional lodge, it comprises a charming collection of rustic buildings, each housing about eight rooms. Clean, comfortable, and recently renovated, it offered a three-star experience at a five-star price.

In the evening, we dined at the Tovar Inn, located close to the rim with some partial views of the canyon. It was undoubtedly a unique culinary experience, featuring craft cocktails, western décor, and a menu filled with delectable steaks, chicken, and pasta dishes—a true five-star dining affair.

The following morning, we once again took the shuttle, exploring the west and east sides of the park, which led us to the visitor center and various viewpoints. We snapped numerous photos and even caught glimpses of the Colorado River in certain areas. I reminisced about the Indian Garden trail I hiked back in 1976, when I descended all the way to the canyon floor on foot.

For our return trip, we boarded the train in the splendid Luxury Dome. Once again, we enjoyed champagne and cocktails, and the panoramic views from the dome justified the premium price. However, security could have been tighter, as we encountered gunshots while slowing for a curve—train robbers boarded and relieved us of our excess dollar bills!
